In 1998 while researching a programme for the National Geographic, we came across this amazing village almost exclusively made up of women.

We found out that after the border to Algeria was closed in 1975 local trade collapsed. Most of the men had to find jobs in cities, or abroad.

To try and encourage the local economy we buy these tents from the villagers and sell them off in the cities. In this way we hope to stimulate the interest in making these great tents again.

In June 2004 UTV made a short documentary of a wedding at the village. The last photo shows us replaying it on a tiny laptop, with the village turning up to watch (most of them are camera shy out of the way!)
